SADC Board of Auditors Commences Annual Audit of Secretariat

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Board of Auditors for the 2024/2025 financial year paid a courtesy call on Dr. Judith Kateera, Deputy Executive Secretary responsible for Corporate Affairs at the SADC Secretariat, who represented the SADC Executive Secretary H.E. Mr. Elias Magosi, as they officially commenced their audit of the SADC Secretariat on 6 May 2025.

The SADC Board of Auditors plays a crucial role in reviewing the financial statements and operations of SADC, ensuring transparency and accountability within the organisation. The board consists of auditors from various SADC Member States, appointed on a rotational basis.
Leading the Board of Auditors for the 2024/2025 financial year is Mr. Christian Mudina Leboyer, President of the Chamber of the Court of Accounts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The board includes auditors from the DRC, Malawi, and Mauritius. Their findings will be presented to the SADC Council of Ministers, which oversees governance within the community.

Dr. Kateera, accompanied by SADC Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration at the SADC Secretariat Ms. Angele Makombo N’tumba, welcomed the Board of Auditors to the SADC Secretariat and assured them of the secretariat’s full support and cooperation throughout the annual audit.

External audits at the SADC Secretariat are conducted in accordance with Article 29 of the SADC Treaty and a resolution passed by the Council of Ministers in January 2005, during their meeting in Malawi. This resolution established that audits of SADC institutions would be carried out by Supreme Audit Institutions of Member States.

Later in the day, the Board of Auditors held a kick-off briefing meeting with the SADC Secretariat management team to discuss the roadmap and scope of the audit.
